Deleting your account

You can do this from inside the app, or by writing to us if you have already uninstalled it. Either way it is permanent.

In the app

Open Settings and choose Delete account. It is at the bottom, under Unpair. If you are not paired with anyone, it is on the pairing screen instead, under Sign out. You will be asked once to confirm, and then it is done.

If you have uninstalled the app

Write to ldr@liqutech.org from the address you signed in with. That is how we know the request is yours — we will not delete an account on the word of a different address. It is read by a person, and you will get a reply confirming it is done.

What is deleted

Everything that is about you, immediately and permanently:

What is kept, and for how long

The clips, gifts, letters and questions you and your partner made are not deleted with your account, and we think that is the right answer rather than a limitation. They are not only yours. A voice note you sent became theirs when it arrived, and reaching into their record to subtract you from it would destroy their copy of a history you both made.

Instead, your couple space is archived — the same thing that happens if either of you unpairs — and an archive and all its media are permanently deleted one year after it was archived. That clock is the same for both of you, neither of you can move it, and nothing restarts it. If your space was already archived before you deleted your account, its year is already running and that date does not change.

Your partner is told that the couple space ended, in the same way they would be told about an unpair. They are not told that you deleted your account.

What your partner sees

An archive with no name on your half of it — the name from your account and the name you typed are both gone. If they had chosen their own nickname for you, they keep it: they wrote it, only they can see it, and taking it would mean deleting their words rather than yours. Nothing is marked as deleted and no name of yours is left behind to explain the gap, though if you were the one who ended the couple space the app records that, exactly as it would for an unpair.

The archive can no longer be brought back. Restoring one takes both people agreeing, and after a deletion one of the two can never answer — so the app stops offering it rather than leaving your partner waiting on a question nobody can answer.
